Gencon Thursday Retrospective

                                        August 21rst, 2012

As suddenly as it arrived Gencon was gone again. Indianapolis always warps my perception of time. By the time you get over the fact that you're there again it's almost time to leave and the convention is ending. 'JB' snored like a Wookie the whole time, 'SW' and 'BM' had a series of tifts, 'Jaygee' and I argued... well he argued and I discussed, that topic being whether or not reality actually cares what your part in it is. And surprisingly 'CL' and 'SW' didn't fight or argue, which is highly unusual and makes me very proud of them.

Thursday started early for me. I woke up at 4:30 am cause 'JB' was snoring and trying to spoon me again. I, brushed my teeth and hair, washed my face then took the elevator to the first floor to smoke a cigarette. Paced around for 15 minutes until the Westin's Starbucks opened and bought a cup of dark roast. I feel that the reader should know that every major hotel connected to the Midwest Convention Center has a Starbucks on the ground floor. It could very well save you the pain of walking 6 giant city blocks to find one that isn't in a hotel. The Westin, The Sheraton, and The Hyatt, Starbucks, Starbucks, Starbucks.

Eight cigarettes and two refills later I went back to the room, showered, and began my first day at Con. The highlight of which was getting my 'League Play' bracelet at the Cryptozoic Cardhall. Actually considering what happened after that... not much of a highlight. I pulled a 'Mottled Drake' Loot card from a collection box of 'Worldbreaker' I bought in the Exhibit hall for 15$ Afterward I went back to the cardhall and asked 'JB' to price the card for my on his smartphone. Turns out... it's a 230$ card.

Thursday night rolled around and we all decided to check out a club called 'Blu' that was having a costume contest. 'Blu' is a kind of upscale dance club right in the middle of downtown Indy. True to gaming convention fashion the most attractive woman in the place was the bartender. I chatted her up very briefly, must have made an impression though because she gave me all my soda for free... that or she just assumed I was the designated driver. Tipped her a dollar, I'm not cheap , I'm poor.

Met a lady named Tammy, a graphic artist from Peoria Illinois, she was dressed up in steampunk fashion and told me she was an airship captain. Tammy was a newscaster for few years, not sure waht she does now besides running her own fantasy art booth at gaming conventions. Which if that's her only gig... you could do worse, a lot worse as an artist these days.

"My friend dragged me out here tonight." Tammy told me raising her voice to get past the music. " She's the 'endowed' one dressed up like the Tartus." she said pointing to a busty girl on the dance floor.

We stepped outside to smoke and had a pleasant conversation. Then my crew came out and we all went to Steak and Shake to get some grub. Despite the earlier 'fingernail in my water' incident I still really enjoy Steak and Shake.

Having learned my lesson from the previous night I scoured my travel bag and found my earplugs, then opted to sleep on the floor to avoid any unwanted 'spooning'.
